The duoKore® building system patent is granted

The patent covering the duoKore® building system has been granted: in the team’s words, the final piece of the Green 4 jigsaw.

The story

Seven years in the making

Green 4 began work on duoKore® in 2019. The early months, in the middle of Covid, went on the concept design of the steel frame, detailing the ‘magic box’ and researching the critical material components. The stage that followed, building the knowledge, finding the funding and finding the time, was probably the most challenging.

The road to the patent

  • 2019: concept design of the steel frame begins.
  • A Green Entrepreneurs grant supports the research, a real milestone for the team.
  • Fire and sound testing at the BRE, passed first time.
  • SCI/NHBC Stage 1 certification, after 18 months of assessment from first design principles, with a 250-year life expectancy.
  • ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 certification.
  • The Partner House, a full-scale prototype, independently tested by the University of Salford.
  • The patent is granted.

What the patent covers

The patent covers the duoKore® building system: a double-skin steel frame system with the insulation built in. It gives the group a protected position in the market and a clear point of difference in the construction industry.

What comes next

  • Completing the registration for carbon credits.
  • Starting the first commercial manufacturing of duoKore®, with JCB.
